Identify what Missouri bond financing can fund

Missouri’s Beginning Farmer Loan Program uses tax-exempt private-activity bonds to help arrange qualifying agricultural capital financing through lenders. The Missouri Agricultural and Small Business Development Authority administers the program but does not maintain a pool of money from which every applicant receives a direct loan. Eligible capital purchases and applicant conditions must be reviewed with the authority and lender. Ordinary operating expenses and refinancing should not be assumed to qualify merely because they support the same farm business.

Arrange operating money alongside the capital purchase

A first-farm budget therefore needs a separate answer for seed, feed, insurance and other costs incurred before sales begin. FSA’s beginning-farmer lending information provides another federal route to investigate, including distinctions between ownership and operating needs. Compare the available structures using the complete purchase and first-season budget rather than a quoted rate alone. Confirm the bond process, documentation and approval sequence before making a binding commitment, and ask how the lender will treat assets already owned or transactions involving relatives.
