Approach Farmer Mac financing through a lender

Farmer Mac supports agricultural credit through the secondary market rather than acting as a direct retail lender to individual farmers. A bank or other participating institution can use Farmer Mac programs when arranging eligible agricultural financing. AgXpress is therefore a route to discuss with the originating lender, not a promise that an applicant can bypass underwriting. Describe the proposed collateral, farm income and requested term, then ask whether a Farmer Mac-supported structure is suitable for that particular transaction.

Compare the retail loan terms offered to the farm

Farmer Mac’s current Loan Exchange platform supports lender submissions for programs including AgXpress. The platform’s existence does not determine the borrower’s final rate, fees or approval. Request the lender’s complete offer, including appraisal requirements, fixed or adjustable pricing, prepayment provisions and any balloon maturity. Clarify who will service the loan and whom to contact if circumstances change. When comparing it with another farm mortgage, use the actual retail terms offered to the business rather than assuming secondary-market support automatically produces the least expensive option.
